FAMILY CAMP

Get ready…our next Family Camp is scheduled for November 7-9th at Torii Beach. Sonnie Kay will be this year’s chairperson! This is a great event to bring the new Cub Scouts that join your unit this Fall. Mark your calendar!

CHARTER RENEWAL

December is charter renewal month for most of our units. Please get ready to get your charter paperwork completed in a timely manner. Packets were distributed at the October Roundtable. Completed re-charters are due into the office by December 15th so that Barbara has time to submit them before the end of the year. If you have questions, please contact your Unit Commissioner or call Barbara at 645-9236.

Your charter is your license to operate your Scouting unit.

HELP WANTED

The Okinawa Office is looking for a Scout Shop Manager. The job is retail sales and is for 30 hours a week. Stop in to fill out an application if you are interested.

SCOUT ASSOCIATION OF JAPAN’S FALL CAMPOREE

Boy Scout Troops…you’re invited! November 28th – 30th, 2008 at Ishikawa Youth Nature Center. This is during the Thanksgiving Holiday but if you’re around, you can attend. Contact Ken Nakai for more information.

ROUNDTABLES

Please take advantage of our monthly Roundtables held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Information, materials, and fellowship are freely shared. If you would like to be a part of the Roundtable Staff, please contact Kevin Burg, our District Commissioner.

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) LEADER TRAINING

Baloo Training will be offered on Saturday, November 22nd at the Scout Hut. This is a day long training session for Packs to be able to take their boys camping. Make a reservation to attend by calling the Scout Hut at 645-9236. Cost is $10.00/participant and includes lunch.

UNIVERSITY OF SCOUTING

Mark your calendar for the University of Scouting to be held on Saturday, January 10th. The University will offer a variety of Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing classes. Sign-up materials will be distributed at the December Roundtable. EVERY YOUTH MEMBER DESERVES A TRAINED LEADER!

MARINE CORPS THRIFT SHOP

Did you know…the Marine Corps Thrift Shop is the single largest contributor to Scouting on Okinawa! Please consider a service project in your unit to help at the Thrift Shop, they can always use a hand. Contact the store at 645-6025 to schedule a time to work.

Kudos to Mark Long, our District Activities Chairman, and his staff for a great Rendezvous! A big “THANK YOU” to the Okinawa O.A. Chapter for their support and help with the campfire. GREAT JOB!

JAMES E. WEST AWARD

The James E. West Award is presented to individuals who donate $1,000.00 to the council endowment fund. Endowment money stays with the council. Only the interest generated by the endowment fund is used to help financially support the council. We currently have about $200,000.00 in this fund. Each year we strive to get 12 new James E. West Fellows. If you are interested in becoming a James E. West Fellow, please contact Jennifer Smith, our District Finance Chairman.

BOY SCOUT SUMMER CAMP 2009

Our next Boy Scout summer camp will be held at Torii Station during the Spring Break week. Camp will start on Sunday, April 5th and end on Saturday, April 11th. Be sure to mark your calendar! Information and sign-up materials will be available at the January Roundtable. We will have the traditional summer camp programs as well as a few new ones. We’ll keep you posted as information becomes available. DON’T MISS IT!

DISTRICT EXECUTIVE’S CORNER

December is Charter Renewal month and it’s important to get your paperwork into the office by December 15th so it can be processed and sent to the National Office before the end of the year. Please see your Unit Commissioner or me if you need help or call Barbara at 645-9236. If you complete your paperwork early, go ahead and turn it in.

FRIENDS OF SCOUTING 2009

Our FOS Program for 2009 is a little different than past years. We ask that units submit $50.00 per registered family. Your unit will receive a 20% discount for Summer Camp and a 10% store discount. These fees need to be paid by February 1st to qualify. Then, we would like to do a presentation at a Pack Meeting or Troop Court of Honor and ask individual families for their support. Individual recognition items will be available.
