Support Scouting

When you make a donation to the Boy Scouts you are making an investment in our future, by preparing today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.  No other program for youth and families does this in such a complete way, creating active minds, healthy bodies and thoughtful spirits.  Learn where the money goes. There are several ways that you can help:

Friends of Scouting

Just like every other Council in the Boy Scouts of America, the Far East Council relies upon those who use the Scouting program to help pay for the program. Contrary to popular belief, the military pays for less than 35 percent of the Far East Council budget of over $450,000.00. The remainder is paid for in store sales, CFC, activities and camping income, investments and Friends of Scouting. Details will be outlined separately. Help is available to explain this important program to your committee and to your families. Click here to download the latest FOS flyer.

James E West Fellowship

The James E. West Fellowship Award is a recognition presented by the Far East Council for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to the Council Endowment fund. This contribution is in addition to, and should not diminish or replace, the donor's annual gift to the Friends of Scouting Campaign. Learn more about the James E. West Fellowship.

Popcorn Sales

Trails Ends popcorn sales have raised between $8,000 and $14,000 each of the past three years for Units here in Okinawa, and an equal amount for the Far East Council. The sale dates this year will be 3 November through 4 December 2008. Each Unit should appoint a “Popcorn Kernel” to help coordinate their program. The Units will need to forecast their requirements and get that forecast into the Scout Service Center no later than August 1, 2008. (We will assist you with your forecasting to insure that the optimum amount is ordered.) The Units will need to contact their individual base or camp for permission to sell door to door and/or at the local exchange/commissary. All profits will be evenly split between the Council and the Units. If you don’t believe how easy popcorn is to sell, just ask those Units that have sold popcorn in the past years. We have had some units making over $3,000.00 in a year as their share of the profits that went right back in to provide a better program for their youths. Tired of not having any money to pay FOS at re-charter or provide equipment or programs that your boys would really like? Then sell popcorn.  Here are some more information for this year's campaign.
